If you’re suffering from dry eyes, you know how frustrating and uncomfortable it can be. From burning and irritation to redness and blurred vision, dry eyes can make it difficult to perform everyday tasks.

The good news is, there are many treatment options available to help alleviate dry eye symptoms. One of these options is TempSure Envi, an innovative and noninvasive treatment that uses radiofrequency technology to relieve dry eye symptoms caused by meibomian gland dysfunction.

Undergoing any sort of new treatment can be intimidating at first. During a dry eye consultation, your eye care team can walk you through your treatment options, including in-clinic treatments such as TempSure Envi. To learn more about how you can find lasting relief from dry eye symptoms, contact your eye doctor

What Is TempSure Envi?

TempSure Envi is a radiofrequency device that can be used for the treatment of dry eye symptoms. While the technology was not initially developed with dry eyes in mind, it has shown promising results in providing lasting relief from uncomfortable dry eye symptoms.

The device works by delivering radiofrequency energy deep into your skin through a hand-held device that is applied to targeted areas.

TempSure Envi is a commonly used treatment for skin tightening and wrinkle reduction. The treatment is typically used on the face, neck, and other body areas to promote collagen production and improve the appearance of loose or sagging skin.

In addition to aiding in collagen production, TempSure Envi can also be used to target areas that will aid in tear production. When applied to the area around your eyes, the gentle heat administered by the TempSure Envi device can help to loosen and melt away blockages in your meibomian glands. This can promote healthy tear production, which is essential to keeping your eyes hydrated and healthy.

What Is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction?

When you experience dry eyes, it’s either because you’re not producing enough tears, or your tears are evaporating too quickly. Proper tear production—both in quantity and quality—is essential to keeping your eyes hydrated and healthy.

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is the most common cause of dry eyes and may account for over 85% of dry eye disease. MGD occurs when your meibomian glands, the oil glands in your eyelid, become blocked or inflamed. These glands produce oils that help lubricate your eye and prevent tear evaporation.

When your meibomian glands are not functioning properly, it can lead to a range of uncomfortable dry eye symptoms, including:

  • Irritated eyes
  • Red eyes
  • Blurred vision
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Feeling of something in your eye

You may develop MGD due to a number of factors, including age, hormonal changes, environmental factors, medical conditions, and medications.

While typical dry eye treatments like eye drops may provide temporary relief from MGD, finding long-term relief will likely require a treatment option that unblocks your meibomian glands and restores tear production.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

The first step in the TempSure Envi treatment process is a consultation with your optometrist. During this appointment, your eye doctor will ask important background questions about things like your dry eye symptoms and medical history.

Your eye doctor may also perform any necessary tests to assess the severity of your dry eye and determine if you’re a good candidate for TempSure Envi.

At Your Treatment

On the day of treatment, you will be asked to remove anything that may interfere with the treatment, including things like makeup, moisturizer, and contact lenses. During treatment, your clinician will use the noninvasive, hand-held device to target the areas around your eyes.

It’s normal to experience a slight warming sensation during your treatment. In total, TempSure Envi treatments usually take between 30–60 minutes to complete.

After Your Treatment

Following treatment, you should begin to see results almost immediately. You may experience temporary blurred vision following treatment as the oils from your newly unblocked meibomian glands flow back into your eyes. Other side effects may include redness and a tingling sensation following treatment. Any side effects should be minor and subside within a few hours of treatment.

In addition to relieving your dry eye symptoms, you may also experience the benefits of TempSure Envi as a treatment for skin tightening and wrinkle reduction.

While results may vary depending on the severity of your dry eye symptoms, you should expect to see significant improvement in your symptoms following a TempSure Envi treatment. Multiple treatment sessions may be necessary to achieve optimal results.

TempSure Envi can be an effective treatment option for dry eyes, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s best to consult with your eye care provider to determine if TempSure Envi is the right treatment option for your specific case of dry eyes.

You don’t have to suffer from dry eyes. Schedule a consultation with our team to discuss the many treatment options, including TempSure Envi, that we offer at Eye Lab.
